Light, shadow, contrasts

Fire, smoke and big machines.

Monday) Introduction to DSLR Cameras

Or perhaps an introduction to digital photography.

  • Shooting pictures using creative settings on a DSLR Camera
  • The digital darkroom – photoshopping afterwards
  • Perhaps: exhibition in the canteen on the big screen

Since the Business Academy does not have unlimited amount of cameras it’s a very good idea to bring your own.

Photomodes: from auto to creative modes

Fire, smoke and big machines...

Auto white balance

Creative use of the automatic settings. These settings are available in most digital cameras, but what is the logic behind these settings?

  • Night (Port View)
  • Sunset
  • Sports
  • Macro (ultra close up)
  • Landscape
  • Portrait

Even my not-too-advanced mobile phone has such settings…

The plan for this day

You will learn the basic use of the creative settings of an average SLR camera:

  • The Golden Hour and how to use it
  • Where is the sun?
  • Planning, maps and … compass.
  • Shutter speed
  • Aperture
  • ISO 100 or 3200?
  • White Balance
  • How to read a histogram
  • Why are the dark areas blinking in the LED viewer?
  • Lens: 10mm, 70mm, 300mm etc.
  • Using natural light
  • Taking pictures without using the flash

It is most likely that you need some reference. Cambridgeincolor.com it a good place to start.

Workshop experiments

Introduction: the work of Vivien Meier as a source of inspiration.

A photo shoot session, where you may choose one of the following options (or more / other options – use thine ingenium here!)

  • No flash photo indoors or in semidark places
  • Awareness of light
  • Aperture – portraits
  • Fast and slow shutter speed pictures (freeze og blur?)
  • Outdoor or indoor – depending on the weather

Tuesday) The Digital Darkroom

Moesgaard Forest[/caption]

This is a workshop, where you must bring your pictures. Perhaps from yesterday. Or some other pictures.

On rare occations the pictures are simply ready for use from the camera. But mostly you’ll need some adjustments. In the workshop we will focus on basic stuff, such as:

Perhaps we could end up with a presentation of your work on a big screen in the canteen?
